To clarify I consider myself an intermediate turner. I have other Crown tools that are excellent but this hollower is absolutely useless. I contribute this to multiple design flaws. The cutter will just slide along the bowl surface without cutting. If you rotate clockwise into the rotation of the bowl as the directions suggests you will get a catch. The round and light weight tool shaft only makes a catch more likely. If you are able to finesse the cutter gentle enough to get it to get a shaving the cutter will immediately clog. I will most likely trim back the end of the tool shaft and install a carbide scraper like the one on a Sorby hollower.
